1.1 – Specific Conditions for International Courier Services

As the “Sender” contracting services with SLI, including any member of its network, you agree on your own behalf, on behalf of the recipient (“Recipient”), and on behalf of any interested party, that these Terms and Conditions shall apply.

“Shipment” refers to all packages transported under an Air Waybill and may be transported by any means deemed appropriate by SLI, including air, road, or third-party transportation services.

“Air Waybill” refers to any document issued to identify and track one or more packages included within a transportation document.

“Ground Transportation” refers to shipments transported wholly or partially by road under the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (“CMR”).

1.1.1 – International Courier Volumetric Weight

Shipment costs are quoted based on weight, using whichever is greater between actual and volumetric weight.

Volumetric weight formula:

Length (cm) × Height (cm) × Width (cm) ÷ 5000

1.1.2 – Authorization

By handing over your Shipment, you authorize SLI to act as your freight agent, regardless of whether the Air Waybill is signed directly by you or by an authorized representative acting on behalf of another interested party.

1.1.3 – Acceptance

You accept that your Shipment may be consolidated with shipments from other senders for transportation purposes.

You also accept that the Shipment may travel through any route and may be diverted, including intermediate stopovers.

1.1.4 – Packaging

The Sender is responsible for ensuring proper packaging and that all contents are securely protected, wrapped, and cushioned for transport.

All packages must be properly identified and labeled, including sender details.

Any risks or damages resulting from defective packaging shall be the sole responsibility of the Sender.

SLI reserves the right to reject shipments that do not meet these requirements.

1.1.5 – Right of Inspection

SLI reserves the right to open and inspect shipments without prior notice for security purposes, customs requirements, governmental requests, or regulatory compliance reasons.

1.1.6 – Customs Clearance

SLI acts as the Sender’s freight agent for customs and export control purposes.

The Sender is responsible for all information provided for Air Waybills and customs declarations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

The Sender is also responsible for all associated charges, including transportation costs, customs duties, taxes, penalties, legal fees, and any related expenses.

1.1.7 – Liability for Loss or Damage

SLI charges a fixed fee of USD 1.50 per Air Waybill (based on the official exchange rate), covering up to USD 300 for loss or theft from the Miami warehouse to final delivery.

Claims review and analysis may take up to five (5) business days.

Insurance does not cover packaging damage unless caused by evident operator negligence.

Recipient signature upon delivery waives future claims related to the package condition.

Optional insurance for amounts exceeding USD 300 is available at 1% of the FOB value difference and must be requested at the time of shipment instruction.

1.1.8 – Exclusions of Liability

SLI shall not be liable for losses or damages arising from circumstances beyond its control, including but not limited to:

  • Electronic or magnetic damage

  • Natural characteristics of the Shipment

  • Refusal or inability to accept delivery

  • Actions by third parties or government authorities

  • Force majeure events such as earthquakes, floods, storms, wars, strikes, transport interruptions, or mechanical failures

SLI shall also not be liable for shipments containing cash, foreign currency, or prohibited items.

1.1.9 – Time Limit for Claims

Claims must be submitted in writing:

  • Within 14 days after delivery in cases of damage or partial loss

  • Within 21 days after delivery in cases of delay

Legal action must be initiated within the time limits established by applicable law.

1.1.10 – Sender Commitment

The Sender agrees to indemnify and hold SLI harmless from any damages or losses arising from failure to comply with these Terms and Conditions or any applicable regulations.
